Alfa is using Pope Leo’s historic visit as a real-world test run for its upcoming 5G rollout.

The company, which announced earlier this year that it was investing in 5G infrastructure, confirmed that it has already started testing the new network.

Alfa says 5G will be switched on in key high-traffic areas during the Pope’s time in Beirut, letting subscribers with compatible devices connect to the faster network for the first time.

This means visitors and residents in the busiest parts of the country, especially around the where massive crowds are expected, will experience early access to the network.

Alfa didn’t give a date for a full public rollout, however.
